This post is all about the best remedies for sickness without medicine.

We all get sick from time to time. (Don’t lie, you’re not as strong as you think. You probably got sick the other day for all we know.) Are you tired of being sick for days on end? Do you want to know how to make the sick go away sooner?
I have some tips for you that don’t involve medication. I believe that nourishing the mind and body is just as important as taking medicine when you’re sick.
Disclaimer
I am not an expert or professional in any way on how to feel better when you are sick. Over the years, I have developed methods of how I make myself feel better when I am sick. Because everyone is different and everyone reacts differently to illnesses and remedies, I cannot guarantee that you will feel better after these remedies are used on you. You, the reader, will read at your own risk and should use the contents of this post for informational purposes only.

The Best Remedies For Sickness Without Medicine
1. Eat Comfort Food
It’s best to eat comfort food when you’re sick because you are putting what makes you feel good into your sick body. I don’t mean to eat candy as your comfort food because the candy will most definitely not help you get over your sickness. Instead, think of foods that are warm and filling. I would consider my comfort food to be macaroni and cheese.
I got sick last April and decided to make myself some macaroni and cheese. It wasn’t your traditional mac and cheese though. Instead, I used garden rotini and the boxed (or jarred) Ragu double cheddar cheese. I normally make this meal whenever I am too lazy to make anything else or when I am sick like in this instant.
I like having warm foods when I’m sick because if I have a buildup of mucus, I feel like the warm food is sort of melting it away and pushing the mucus down so that it’s not clogging my throat.
Everyone’s comfort food is different but for me, comfort food is warm and filling. Eat your comfort food and you’ll feel better sooner.
2. Sleep
Sleep is very important when you’re sick because your body naturally repairs itself in your sleep. So, doesn’t it make sense that you would want to sleep a little more than usual when you’re sick? You’ll most likely feel bad while you’re sick too so sleeping will make time go by faster so that you aren’t feeling like you’re sick for days on end.
You definitely do not want to be sleeping all day every day while you’re sick too. It’s very important that you get up every now and then to get your body moving and put some food in your system.
I tend to sleep longer in the mornings and take a short nap after lunch whenever I’m sick. Sometimes I feel better when I wake up. Sometimes I don’t. I just know that sleeping helps my body get better in the long run.
So, try to sleep your sickness off but not too much!
3. Take A Warm Shower
I absolutely love taking warm showers when I am sick. It seems as though I am washing away my sickness. Let me explain. Sometimes when you’re sick, you can feel hot tingly air coming in and out of your nose and you blow out your nose a lot spreading snot all over your face. Since you feel this and do this while you’re sick, it’s only natural to think that your entire face is infected. When you take a warm shower and rinse your face with warm water, it feels as if you’re physically washing the sickness away.
Obviously, this won’t take away all of your sicknesses but it will make you feel a little better than how you felt before. Taking a warm showering will also warm up the rest of your body. Your body will start to relax and feel nourished as the warm water hits your body and runs down to your feet.
I know that sometimes you’re going to be a little weak to want to undress and get in the shower but it can make a big difference in your sickness journey. I don’t recommend baths. You might not want to sit in a tub full of your sickness floating around. We’re trying to wash that away, remember?
4. Dress Warm

I mentioned a little bit about keeping warm in my point about taking warm showers. Keeping warm can go beyond the shower too. After you’ve taken your nice warm shower, you need to consider dressing warmly too. That means wearing long pants and wearing long sleeves.
You don’t want to overdress yourself though because your body needs some room to breathe. I used to think that when you have the chills while you’re sick, you need to bundle up as much as you can to not get sicker.
However, I learned that the real trick is to dress warmly enough to not feel like you’re freezing, but thin enough so that your body can sense that it needs more warmth. Does that make sense? When you go a little less than how you need to dress, this gives your body a little push to start producing a cold sweat.
A cold sweat normally involves being cold no matter how warm you try to get and sweating at the same time. It’s a gross feeling in all honesty. But this means that the body is breaking the sickness and that you’re feeling better.
In a couple of hours, you’ll feel almost as good as new.
5. Drink Lots of Water
It’s also very important that you drink a lot of water while you’re sick. When you’re sick, your body is trying to utilize all the water and food it can to feel better. When you’re dehydrated, your body doesn’t have much to work with.
We all know our bodies are made up of mostly water so it makes sense that we would need to drink as much water as we can when we are sick.
When you have mucus in your throat, drinking warm water will give you temporary relief from the mucus too by “melting” or loosening it and washing it down.
It’s kind of bad to wash the mucus down honestly so if you can, try to cough it up instead. The water would help loosen up most of it so it’s inevitable that some of it will get washed down.
6. Cough When Needed
Going back to the built-up mucus in your throat and trying to cough it up, try to not hold your coughs back. It can get really annoying especially when you aren’t by yourself. You don’t want to be a bother to other people. (Unless you don’t care then cough away.)
It’s important to cough when your body wants to because it’s your body’s natural way of relieving itself from when it doesn’t feel well. Also, when you cough, you’ll be likely to push up some mucus to cough out. If you can, get as much mucus out of your throat as you can.
The mucus trapped all the bacteria in your throat and now it’s your job to get rid of it. Is that wrong? That’s what I’ve been doing and it works at least.
If there are more bacteria, the mucus normally reforms itself so temporary relief is always good. Also, cough when you need to because you don’t want to choke on your mucus or on anything else trapped in your throat.
7. Do relaxing Activities

When you’re sick, you should relax and not overwork your body. Examples could be reading or watching tv. Anything that requires minimal physical activity.
If you normally exercise, maybe replace it with some stretching. You don’t want to overwork your body while you’re sick because your body is already trying so hard to recover. You may delay the recovery process if you don’t let your body do its natural thing.
The last time I was sick, I binged Demon Slayer and it was one of the most relaxing two days of my life despite me being overwhelmed with homework.
8. Go Outdoors
When I say to go outdoors. I don’t mean you have to do any strenuous activities outside. I did just say to do relaxing activities after all. Your house can get a bit musty when you’re sick and in the house. That’s why you need to think about going outside for some fresh air.
When you go outside for fresh air, you allow yourself to get out of cramped space and refresh your inner body. You’ll feel physically and mentally nourished. When you go outside, just take a light walk or sit on the porch under the sun.
