This post is all about the ultimate guide to getting a Brazilian wax.

Are you unsure of what to do with the hair in your lower regions? And I don’t mean your legs. I mean the area between your inner thighs. (I tried to not have to say the body organ just ‘cause.) Let me tell you that I have done hair removal and I have done it by waxing. Yes. Waxing.

The Ultimate Guide To Getting A Brazilian Wax

What is a Brazilian Wax?
Brazilian wax is the complete removal of pubic hair. Most of the time when it is talked out, a Brazilian wax is referred to as being done on the lower regions of your body between your thighs. (Or at least that’s how I think of it.
Should You Get A Brazilian Wax?
Well, it really depends on you and who you want to be when you walk out of the building. You are losing a physical part of yourself and it may or may not change the way you view yourself.
Why are you getting a Brazilian wax? Will getting a Brazilian wax help you feel a certain way?
Other than these questions you need to ask yourself, there are quite a few pros and cons to getting a Brazilian wax.
Pros
1. Looks Cleaner
In general, getting hair removed in your lower region helps it to look cleaner. Instead of having a full bush with hair going in all sorts of different directions, you’ll have no hair to worry about or you’ll have a small groomed shape for an added mature look. In regards to waxing, waxing will remove the hair very cleanly and will over time weaken the hair follicles.
I have never shaved my lower regions but when I talk to my friends or other people that do shave down there, I hear stories about lots of ingrown hairs, itchiness, and how the hair grows back really fast. Many of those people cut themselves on a razor too.
Overall, waxing leaves a smooth and clear surface as if there was nothing there.
2. COnfidence Booster
Getting a Brazilian wax will surely give you a boost in self-confidence. If you’re thinking of getting a Brazilian wax, there is most likely a very good reason why. Maybe you’re insecure about if a future partner were to see it or you think it would just make you feel prettier in general.
I can say from experience that getting a wax makes me feel free. I don’t know how to explain it but I feel like nothing is holding me back and I can go anywhere and do anything.
Deciding on a Brazilian wax was not an overnight decision. I had actually been thinking about removing hair down there for about a year before I finally decided to do it. There was always the fear of regretting it or it becomes a waste of money. But part of me always longed for it.
I longed to do something for myself that I thought would make me feel better in my skin and it did.
3. Better intimacy
There is no doubt that hair removal would lead to better intimacy. Once the hair is removed, there is one less barrier separating you from your partner. You also don’t have to worry about hairs falling out and “shedding” on the bed during intimate moments.
Your partner will most likely tell you that they have no preference, but I have a feeling that most of them appreciate that it’s groomed and well kept when they see it.
(But also to not forget that if your partner has a problem with what you decide to do with your body, they aren’t worth your time. You deserve better.)
4. Easier to clean
Ever since I got Brazilian wax, I noticed that it was much easier to clean myself down there, especially after I peed.
This is going to sound TMI (too much information) and disgusting but when I peed, the pee would slide off my hair, which is normal, and I would have to use toilet paper to sort of rub the hair while also making sure I can make my way between my skin to wipe any excess urine that might have gotten trapped between or under the hairs.
Now that there is little to no hair, all I have to worry about is cleaning my skin. So I guess we can say it’s easier to clean and less stressful overall when trying to stay clean.
5. No bikini hair exposure
Another reason I wanted to get hair removal done was that I’d feel self-conscious when I wear a bathing suit to the beach.
Of course, this is just because of the social standards that are present in society but even then, I was still very uncomfortable and was not able to enjoy my time at the beach or water park or wherever I was.
My options were to stop caring what other people thought or spend $60 to get my insecurity removed. Obviously, I chose the latter. But I still don’t regret it! (Yet.)
6. Lasts longer + is better than shaving?
I actually did think about just shaving my hair. It would be cheaper for sure. But then I thought about how I could cut myself and how more likely it is to get ingrown hairs.
I talked to a few friends that shaved and they tell me that they have to shave pretty much every day to maintain it. What I wanted were long-lasting results that required little to no effort on my part.
For me to have the results I wanted, shaving didn’t seem like the option for me. I also didn’t want a higher risk for ingrown hairs. Of course, you can still get ingrown hairs when getting a wax but if you care for your skin the way you should, you should be fine.
Based on my experience, I only have to go back for maintenance every 6 weeks. Eventually, I’m going to push it to 7 weeks because my hairs are getting thinner and I don’t have that much hair, to begin with.
Cons
1. Expensive
It’s not a surprise that getting wax is expensive. After all, you are exposing yourself to a stranger and they have to be careful not to burn your skin and hurt you.
Definitely expect to pay about $70 on average. You also go back to get maintenance on it every 4-8 weeks too so imagine how much money you spend in a year. And don’t ever forget to tip!
2. Grows back itchy
Having an itch when it grows back should be expected. Your hairs have to make their way across your skin barrier. So of course, you’re gonna feel it. After about a week, your hairs will start to grow through your skin and you’ll itch. A lot.
3. More needed care
You’ll have to exfoliate and moisturize often to prevent ingrown hairs and infections.
Exfoliating helps to clean your skin of any dead skin and moisturizing keeps your skin soft to help those many hairs grow in easily and nicely. I haven’t gotten any ingrown hairs or infections yet and I hope I never will.
Therefore I don’t have much to say besides the fact that it takes more effort to maintain.
4. Exposing yourself to someone else
Maybe you have a thing against exposing yourself because of insecurities or that those are sacred body parts. Maybe you even have some religious beliefs that would go against exposing yourself to someone else.
Although, in the end, what you do with your body is your decision and does not affect anyone else around. So why should you worry about what anyone around you thinks?
Just remember that the waxing process only lasts about 30-50 minutes long. It really depends on how much hair you have and how much hair you are trying to get removed.
5. Painful process
Did it hurt, everyone asks? Why, yes it does.
The first one was for sure the worst but even after a few times going, it still hurts but more like pitches. It’s not too bad at all. Over time, you’ll get used to it and you’ll forget how painful your first experience was.
Also, the excessive pain that we feel from the first time is both from the freshness of the hair roots in the skin and the amount of nervousness that we’re feeling before and during the process.
6. Potential health risks
The last con is the potential health risks. We have pubic hair for a reason. It is there to help protect our organs from any foreign bacteria that might make their way into any openings you may have.
All the foreign bacteria would get trapped in the hair and hardly ever make their way inside your body to cause any harm.
My biggest fear was putting my health in danger when I got a wax. I was thinking that since I am getting rid of a protective barrier, I would be more likely to develop infections such as UTIs. (So far, that hasn’t happened yet.)

I personally think that the pros outweigh the cons IF you have the money to get a Brazilian wax. My waxes are about $60-70 on average including tips (that you should most definitely be giving.)
Choosing The Location
I highly recommend that you research all the waxing locations in your area and take a look at the reviews that customers leave.
In my area, there are two locations that both had very high ratings. I took to the comments to decide which waxing location was right for me and based on the reviews. Because of the reviews, I knew exactly which location seemed more welcoming and trustworthy.
I also recommend that you check the location’s website because most of them have FAQs sections and can give you details about pricing, what all happens when you go in for your wax as well as the materials and methods they use.
You might also have to book an appointment ahead of time so doing your research is a must anyway.
I was lucky enough to choose the person that would be waxing me too. Each individual waxer developed their client list and the clients would leave reviews specifically for that waxer. Those reviews were the most helpful in choosing a location and my chosen waxer. (And everything was perfect because the lady that waxed me was as good as all the reviews said.)
So, do your research! A stranger is going to be working on one of your most important body organs. (Skin!)
Getting Shapes With Your Brazilian Wax

So when you get a Brazilian wax, you don’t have to get 100% removal of the hair. You have the option of leaving some hair on your pelvic bone (which I did because I am not ready to part with it yet.)
Some of the shapes you can get are bikini (where you only get rid of enough hair to where it won’t show when you wear a bikini), french bikini (where the hair will be thinner than the waxing of a bikini), or a Brazilian (where you leave a tiny triangle on your pelvic bone).
If you want to know more about all the shapes you can do, you should do some extra research. There are plenty of different designs to choose from. Some waxers can even give you a heart shape! Or you can be easy and just get rid of all your hair.
What Type of Wax Should You Use?
I have only tried hard wax and it is recommended (by the internet and my waxer) that you use hard wax on the more sensitive areas. Soft wax is used with paper strips while hard wax hardens on your skin.
Apparently, the hard wax is gentler on your skin. I haven’t had problems with hard wax so I am okay with staying with the safe hard wax.
Should You Wax Yourself?
I have strong opinions about this question and my answer is no. You should not wax yourself unless you are a professional waxer. Or if you are okay with potentially ruining your skin.
Those are really important body parts you’re about to mess with so unless you know exactly what you’re doing, leave it to the professionals to prevent any complications.
Getting a wax on one of your most sensitive areas is painful enough. Do you really want to put yourself in more unnecessary pain?
What I Expected When Getting A Brazilian Wax
- What if I get aroused
- Will I be in excrutiating pain
- How emabrrassed am I going to feel
- What if my pubic hair wasn’t up to par to get a Brazilian wax?
- Would I get judged and shamed for my hygiene?
What Actually Happened When Getting A Brazilian Wax
- I did not get aroused
- There was a lot of pain but it wasn’t ongoing. I was only in pain in the moment that she would rip the wax off.
- I wasn’t embarrassed much at all. Maybe at first when she asked me to butterfly my legs and open up but after that, I was comfortable and let the waxer do her job. It also helps that the person that waxed me was very nice and welcoming of the event. She made me feel comfortable and that everything was going to be okay.
- My pubic hair happened to be a perfect length because I was expecting the waxer to tell me my hair is too long and that she would need to trim a bit. Instead what happened was that my hair was long enough to where she didn’t need to trim at all. She put the hard wax directly onto my full bush of hair.
- I actually brought along my best friend too so she saw me when I was exposed too. No one judged me for anything. We all knew that I was there to feel like my best self and wanted a little bit of grooming.
How To Prepare For Your Brazilian Wax

- Shower right before the waxing to clean the area before a stranger gets up in your business. The least you could do is give them a clean area. They are doing you a service and it would be very nice of you to appreciate their help.
- Trim excess hair but make sure you keep at least 1-inch length of hair for them to wax. Or leave it if you’re unsure. The waxers can always trim for you if it’s too long. Let the professionals do what they need to do. (They did for me.)
- Exfoliate every couple of days. (I exfoliate every other day.)
- Moisturize every day. (And I mean every day.)
Ending Note
I had a lot to say about getting a Brazilian wax as you can probably tell. There is a lot to think about when it comes to getting wax on your sensitive areas because those are very important organs and you don’t want to mess those up.
Maybe be like me and sit on the idea for a year before you decide to do it or not do it? I hope you like this post and hopefully, you’d consider getting a Brazilian wax. It’s one of the most fun and refreshing things I have ever done for myself. I’ve incorporated it into my self-care routine.
This post was all about the ultimate guide to getting a Brazilian wax.
Extra Tips
Wear loose clothes so it’s easy to get in and out of during your waxing, choose hard wax, and ask your waxer to do long and large strips that cover more surface area versus many small strips.
Sure, with small strips the pain isn’t so bad since they will only be pulling a few hairs at a time. But only doing a few hairs at a time prolongs the process and you’re feeling more frequent pain. If you cover more surface area at once and pull it off like a bandaid, it’s going to hurt significantly but the overall process will be done sooner since your waxer did fewer pulls than if they were to do smaller strips every time.
